Slag Pricing

Slag is an excellent aggregate for driveways. Portslag will deliver in the City of Sydney at $65 for one truck load. One truck load is 13 tons of slag. Since slag is 20% lighter than natural aggregate there is %20 more volume with slag. See price list below for product prices. Contact Portside Aggregates to find the cost of delivery outside of the City of Sydney.

Types of Slag

There are a variety of slag resources located on the SYSCO property, including blast furnace slag, open hearth furnace slag, and electric arc furnace slag. The majority of the slag produced at the Sydney Steel Plant was an air-cooled blast furnace slag (ACBFS). ACBFS is a hard, coarse angular material that is a by-product of the steel making industry. Today ACBFS is used as a recycled resource in a variety of applications.

A Versatile Product

Blast furnace slag is one of the most versatile products used in construction. From the days of Ancient Rome, slag has been used in the construction. Slag is a recycled material that has proven to be long wearing, stable and economical.

High Stability
- The high stability of ACBFS aggregates can be beneficial in construction on soft ground. Due to its’ rough surface, ACBFS has the ability to “lock up” in granular base applications.

Types of Slag

Wear Resistant – Weather Resistant -Slag displays a toughness and resistance to polishing under traffic. The hardness rating of slag is comparable to igneous rocks while the porous nature of slag contributes to its’ resistancy to weather changes. Slag aggregate bases drain better than most conventional aggregates of similar size grading.

Temperature Resistance - Since slag was formed under high temperatures it possesses excellent insulating properties and fire resistance along with having a high product purity level.
